My personal belief is that the combination of price point and the undecided winner between the HDVD and blue ray camps has been a barrier to many people.

There are not too many of my clients in the past who have been willing to fork over $999 for aN HD player that they may...or may not be able to buy or rent movies for in the next year or two.

However, The latest price drop by the $199 HDVD player and Sonys $399 blue ray may be enough to get those sitting on the fence to decide to do something now.
